I wanted to upload another video in the practice kit series today. Unfortunately, I've been under the weather for the past few days, so today I'm sharing a "filler episode" if you will. This is from the previous DrummerCon 2023 in Singapore, where I was part of the Drummer Co team. I thought this drum sounded fantastic, really thumpy low end, of course, it was a short time of playing since ever...

    Hi bro, love this video! Thank you so much. I live in Zimbabwe and travelling to Berlin in July for a month and seriously considering investing in this kit because I live in an apartment with very little to no margin for noise! I’m currently using a set of the old remo practice pad set. The feel on these things is terrible, too hard, loud and with no feel or difference in sound between the pads. I haven’t practiced at all this year because there’s simply no motivation. I desperately need the true touch setup So first of all I’m glad to hear that they are light weight as I will need to pack them in my second luggage allowance bag. My question is about the kick pad. Fortunately I live on the ground floor of an apartment complex (so no one below me to complain about noise) but I’m wondering if that kick pad carries much through the walls next door or if it’s quiet enough to confidently kick the thing without worrying much? Also, whats the name of those rubber cymbals? I’m currently using my actual cymbals with the Hq sound off pads on them. The ride is fine but it’s too hard and harsh feeling on the hats, something softer and quieter would be preferable.

    • @ProjectBeats_
      @ProjectBeats_ Місяць тому

      Hey thanks for reaching out. I’d say the kick is probably the softest part of the whole kit in terms of volume produced. I would still think about impact noise overall. So a thick workout gym rubber mat then carpet on top as drum platform would isolate you from the whole room. Less worry about impact noise reaching anyone from all four sides. They are lightweight only the kick pad is a little hefty.

    • @ProjectBeats_
      @ProjectBeats_ Місяць тому

      The rubber cymbals I’m using are called Lemon Cymbals from alibaba. Any rubber ecymbal would work. Maybe check the used market. broken ecymbal too. If not using it as edrums anyway. You just need quiet practice. But yeah Lemon Cymbals have nice large sizes and cheap enough.

      😮@@ProjectBeats_Hello Project Beats, Joven. Haha- I had no idea who's playing but, I could hear fcking skill. Is real easy to lose a beat in the flow , especially if you start improvising "on the fly" & take chances. Usually happens when you play really cool phrases that go over the bar line and you can lose the beat where the 1 is. Edit ; btw, when I say "you ", I don't mean you per se. Actually , I'm describing what happens to me.

    • @ProjectBeats_
      @ProjectBeats_ 2 місяці тому

      @glenndolleck1262 true! Altho in an open solo setting like this there is a bit of give where you could literally do anything and no one would care but then you look back and think “what was I thinking?” 😆 personally my goal at least is to get that uninterrupted flow. At the moment counting while doing a fully improv solo flow is impossible for me.

    • @glenndolleck1262
      @glenndolleck1262 2 місяці тому

      @@ProjectBeats_Hi Joven. Yes that's right, you can't count ; you gotta feel it. For ex. if you count while trading 4's , licks will be stiff and never be across the bar cool shit. Hard to feel - gotta develop internal clock / and, , come up w/ tricks for staying in the flow , pocket, & meter. I used to think " how the fck do you 'feel' odd time" - but, you can. I do count in the beginning to learn stuff and song intros and to work out licks so I can fit them into the music.

      @glenndolleck1262 that’s a given but in the moment unless you really trained for it. You’ll get lost. At least for me. Things are different in the practice room vs live 😄 maybe just me.

For me, sadly, drumming remained a hobby as I had way too much on my plate with family, rent etc. But I am rooting for you and watch your content whenever you can send us something. I arrived to a similar conclusion though, even in my profession (IT). It's great to tinker and DIY but you need to hit jackpot with your experiments for everyday professional use. Of course that might happen, but usually one cannot afford to rely on that when working for bread. On the other hand, who knows, all these might eventually amalgamate into something fabulous in the future. So don't give up, you will reach a good place with your talent and perseverance. great review mate, I am considering this kit, I'm in Sydney Australia and live in a 1 bedroom unit. Noise is a big issue for me so any kind of cymbals is a no go zone as even low profile ones would penetrate through our walls. I'm currenting just practicing on a rubber knee pad but want something similar to my acoustic kit that is currently located at my Fathers house. A few questions: would you say this kit is more compact and quiet then a roland mesh kit? because I had to sell mine because it was too big and even a little to loud for my unit! If I were to purchase just the snare and kick pad to start off with. Would you recommend this Kickpad or should I go with an Evens Realfeel or Gibraltar 10in (round one) instead? It would be a double kick setup if that changes the answer? Thanks in advance, you got a Sub from me :-)

    • @ProjectBeats_
      @ProjectBeats_ 3 місяці тому

      Hey man thanks! Preciate you. 🙏🏽 First, depends on what roland kit you are comparing it too. If the big shell ones then Tama true touch is quieter, actually may be the quietest pad out there. But vs shallow roland pads they may be close if not similar. Second, if you could test them and see what you prefer I think that would be best. Personally I may actually go with a used or even broken roland KD9/KD10. Those feel good. Gibraltar may be a tiny bit better in terms of feel, but Tama kick pad would more quiet for sure. I wouldn’t even look at evans or similar design. But that’s just me. Also if you’re in a flat rubber mat+carpet might help with impact noise.

      Thanks bro that's some good ideas. I didn't think to use a broken kd9 or 10 ill keep a look out. Yeah noise, size and feel are my biggest factors. I love your videos. I'm doing the same to my Roland Acoustic kit. However, where do I find the material to make the choke? I'm not sure what the "tape" is called that you put on the rim of the cymbals all the way around? What is this called and where can I find it? My Ride that comes with the Roland kit has a three zone connection that is connected to the cymbal by a USB connection as opposed to the jacks that are typically found on the kits. Any suggestions for this once I start to replace the Ride? Again, thanks for the videos and the education. Keep drumm'n!

      Thanks! 🙏🏽 I take it you have the Roland VAD kit, altho I’m not sure why you would replace your digital ride with a DIY one, yours is perfectly fine, plays and reacts way better than a DIY build. All the parts in this video is in the description.

    Anyway of just just getting a single piano split so the piano track plays on its own

      You would have to really look for actual stems or stems remake. Coz the way this is done you cant really split rhythm section

    That’s a great idea with the cymbal felt held on by a nut and bolt! Would’ve never thought of that!

    Excellent work, one question, where do you connect the trigger output on the Roland module?

      Thanks! TD17 Roland snake has a snare line. It’s a dual zone cable. It’s plug and play

    Hi, I just ordered your 3D Print softcopy. Do I have to print all the three files? ( 39mm,52mm,72mm )? Thank you and great job

    Get Zildjian L80s and pair the True Touch with those. Way better than whatever low volume cymbals those were.

      They may sound “way” better (also debatable) but as mentioned I have no interest nor use of any sounding lvc for my home practice kit. Always a case to case basis. I’d rather put that money towards other gear.

    thanks for your video, it's one of the best I've seen congratulations! I have some questions to ask you: the aluminum profiles, I think and hope are easily recoverable, but I would like to know how you made the base of the trigger, which is installed on the three aluminum profiles, I understand that it is very particular. Also, are the two piezo triggers the same or is the rim trigger different? Which brand you suggest about trigger kits? I'm using an old, but still functional ROLAND TD-8 module and I also use the rim, not often, but I happen to use it. thank you for your precious support

      Thank you! Yes it’s a 3d printed part. The STL printable soft copy is linked in the description. However you can do without it. You can use any round metal disk or something similar.

    What is the exact connection with the 3 pins in the XLR?? The speaker gives only 2 pins. I am thinking also the situation of accidentally pressing the phantom power switch on the interface. In that case do we run the danger of damaging the input circuit of the audio interface or the speaker ?

      Hey. Quick google would show some diagram connections. Thats just what I did. I have my sub mic on adat interface occasionally, it has to have phantom on for the entire 8mic pre for my other condenser mic, It’s just little louder. Not ideal but Ive no prob.
